Electrical part list
The XM has a couple of billion electrical parts. It's not always easy to find where a specific item is located.
The factory manual and the circuit diagrams denote every part with a reference number. The listing below uses these numbers. Left and right, as usual, refers to the driving position.
Non-obvious parts in the XM
53 Water temperature control unit - LHD: Remove the glovebox. The unit is housed in a black Bitron box attached to the firewall side of the opening. RHD: The unit is located above the accelerator pedal.
55 Door locking control unit - To the right of item #53 above.
59 Preheater control unit - Attached to the battery box.
60 Cruise control control unit - Attached to the main ECU box, located on the right hand front of the engine bay.
71 L.H. front heated seat regulator control unit - Attached to the underside of the L.H. seat frame.
72 R.H. front heated seat regulator control unit - Attached to the underside of the R.H. seat frame.
73 L.H. rear heated seat regulator control unit - Remove the L.H. side seat side bolster. The unit is located there.
74 R.H. rear heated seat regulator control unit - Remove the R.H. side seat side bolster. The unit is located there.
130 Lights-on audible warning - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This unit is located on the top end of the board, it's the first one in the row.
141 Aircon ECU - In the middle of the dashboard, above the center console. Remove the control panel to find it behind that.
143 Suspension ECU - In the main ECU box, located on the right hand front of the engine bay.
159 Steering wheel sensor - Remove the steering column shroud. The unit is located to the steering column under the steering wheel.
170 Flasher unit - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This relay is located on the top end of the board, it's the second one in the row.
255 AC compressor - Under the alternator, in front of the engine.
316 Coolant level - Attached to the expansion chamber.
317 LHM level - On the top of the LH reservoir.
340 Flowmeter - In the air ducting in front of the LHM reservoir.
429 Diesel fuel cutoff valve - Between the injector pump and the engine block, in front of glowplug #3. Item #443 is not actually here, this is only a connector going to it.
442 EGR valve - In front of the right suspension strut.
620 Inertia (crash) switch - In front of the right suspension strut
700 Air mixing motor - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column. The servo unit is bolted to the side of the heater unit but access is blocked by some connectors you have to remove first.
710 Air distribution motor - Remove the glovebox. The servo unit is bolted to the side of the heater unit, between a large duct and the unit wall.
711 Air recycling motor - Remove the glovebox. The servo unit is located on the firewall, behind a larger black Bitron box (item 53).
742 Front centre interior lamp - In the ceiling at the front.
743 Rear centre interior lamp -
759 EGR pump - In front of the right suspension strut
773 Throttle level potentiometer - LHD: In front of the firewall. RHD: behind the engine ECU box.
775 Pressostat - To the right of the battery.
805 Refrigeration compressor cut-off relay - LHD: under the glovebox, under the panel with item 821. RHD: above the accelerator pedal.
806 Front fog lamps relay - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This relay is located on the bottom end of the board, it's the third one of the first row.
807 Injection relay - In front of the ECU box.
809 Front window relay - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This relay is located on the bottom end of the board, it's the first one of the first row.
813-815 Cooling fan relays - Under the engine bay slam panel.
817 Front heated seats relay - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This relay is located on the bottom end of the board, it's the first one of the third row.
819 Rear fog lamps relay - Remove the glovebox. The relay with a black connector is located in the middle.
820 Heated rear screen relay - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This relay is located on the bottom end of the board, it's the first one of the second row.
821 Air conditioning additional relay - LHD: Remove the glovebox. The relay with a green connector is located on the right side, fixed to the top of a chassis panel. RHD: The relay is located above the accelerator pedal.
822 Refrigeration compressor cut-off relay by injection - In front of the ECU box.
824 Rear heated seats and sunroof relay - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This relay is located on the bottom end of the board, it's the second one of the third row.
825 Dipped beams relay - Under the engine bay slam panel.
837 Lighting timer - Remove the glovebox. The relay with a black connector is located in the middle.
844 ABS relay - Behind LH headlamp, tucked into the engine bay corner.
848 Engine running information relay - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This relay is located on the bottom end of the board, it's the second one of the second row.
874 Sunroof supply relay - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This relay is located on the bottom end of the board, it's the second one of the first row.
880 Lighting rheostat - Housed in the lower shround under the steering column.
903 Injection air pressure sensor - Attached to the firewall.
907 Injector air temp sensor - In the air filter ducting.
908 Air conditioning duct temperature sensor - 2N, wire R
909 Engine water temp sensor - In the thermostat.
910 Engine water temp sensor - In the thermostat.
911 Engine water temp sensor - In the thermostat.
913 Interior air temperature sensor - Remove the front ceiling light unit lens. The sensor (built into a small ventilator) is attached vertically to the inside of the panel.
961 Lighting timer - Remove the glovebox. The relay with a brown connector is located in the middle.
962 Windscreen wiper timer - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This unit is located on the bottom end of the board, it's the third one of the second row.
963 Rear screen wiper timer - Remove the lower shroud under the steering column to gain access to the mainboard. This unit is located on the top end of the board, it's the third one in the row.
